SUMMER SOLSTICE
The June solstice marks the first day of astronomical summer, but not always on the same date.
On this first day of summer, the sun is highest in the sky leading to increased solar radiation and the “hot days” of summer.
The earth spins around its axis; the axis is tilted somewhat off the plane of the earth’s revolution around the sun. This is depicted by beach balls that circle the sun.
My piece shows pastimes that evolve near the shore during the solar warmth.
